Comprehensive Organizational Assessment

This assessment tool is designed to help HIV service organizations evaluate their internal capacity, readiness for change, and alignment with transformational goals amidst a rapidly shifting funding and political landscape.

It is intended for executive leaders, board members, and staff who are actively exploring strategic decisions about their organization’s future.

The assessment will take 20-30 minutes to complete.

Once you complete the assessment, you will have the option to schedule a 30-minute consultation with AIDS United staff to discuss your results and develop a TA plan to address identified opportunities.

methodology

This tool was developed by combining selected questions from four established frameworks: the Program Sustainability Assessment Tool (PSAT), the Organizational Capacity Assessment Tool (OCAT), the Organizational Readiness for Change Assessment (ORCA), and the Racial Justice Index (RJI). Together, these sources provide a comprehensive picture of nonprofit capacity across ten domains:

  • Data & Evaluation
  • Effective Leadership
  • Financial Health & Planning
  • Internal Culture
  • Organizational Structure
  • Partnerships & Sector Collaboration
  • Program Sustainability & Adaptability
  • Racial Justice Integration
  • Staff Capacity & Workflow
  • Strategic Planning

scoring

Each question is rated on a 5-point scale (from Strongly Disagree – 1 to Strongly Agree – 5), and the results are calculated as averages between 1 and 5. These averages are reported for both the domain and the overall cumulative score, making it easy to see how an organization is performing across different areas of capacity. Scores are interpreted as follows: 1–2 = Low Score, 3 = Medium Score, and 4–5 = High Score.
